18th May 2008

So it's been a while since the last update...lots of exciting things happening including producing and recording down at a certain three lettered studio with the letters L, W and P in the name...I reckon you can work it out from that. I can't really give many details at the moment, but I'll let you know in the near future. I also did a last minute acoustic set at the Halo Bar in Battersea very recently, which was a good laugh and gave me another opportunity to make stupid noises and loop them, all in the name of art (or even arse). Or something like that. More gigs like that coming soon...there'll also be new audio up on my MySpace page very soon.

You can hear a remix I recently did of Jamie Lidell's "A Little Bit Of Feel Good" which unfortunately wasn't chosen for release. Rather than let it languish in the nether regions of my hard drive (stop giggling at the back), I have put it up for your listening delectation on my MySpace remix page. You can download the bugger too.

28th February 2008

So it's a Tuesday night and the TV is shite again...well, get your arses down to the London Irish Centre, 50-52 Camden Square, London NW1 9XB instead on March 11! I'm putting on an unique gig which is part of the St Patrick's Day London Festival (and part of the London Irish Centre's St Patricks Week of events too); I'll be previewing some songs from the upcoming acoustic EP (out in the summer) as well as doing one of the "hits". You'll also see Portlaoise singer/songwriter Gary Dunne doing a few of this own in support of his upcoming album "Simple Truth". But the main part of this "happening" (did I really say that?) will be the two of us doing an unrehearsed mixture of Irish songs and soul classics, as well as anything else that we choose to tackle in a spontaneous fashion. As if all that's not good enough, the cheapskates amongst you will be pleased to hear that it's FREE! Not a penny! I am also informed that there will be waitress service...now this doesn't mean that I've gone into the pimping trade, forcing young female servants to offer dubious propositions. I stopped all that at least six years ago. It basically means that if you can't be arsed to walk down to the bar, someone will get your drink for you. So let's recap...great music...being waited on hand and foot...Jesus, it's sounding so good, even I'll be going! So remember, it only takes a donation of 50p to help a starving child in Afr...oops, sorry, wrong blog. CDs will be sold on the night and doors are open at 7pm.

In other news, I've been invited to do a track for an Average White Band tribute album that will also feature members of that band. Pretty damn exciting or what? I've also contributed guitar and backing vocals on a track entitled "Motion" which is on the forthcoming Martin Kitcher Band album "Eyes To The Left" out on April 5.

24th December 2007

Yes, it's that time of year again, and what kind of a curmudgeon would I be if I didn't put a cover of an Xmas "classic" up on my MySpace page? Yes, you can hear my unique version of "Jingle Bells" where Allan Holdsworth, Marvin Gaye, Prince and Jamie Lidell go down the local boozer on Christmas Eve, getting thoroughly shitfaced and end up doing something rather unholy with the turkey. Or maybe it's my imagination. Just having read this back, I've made it sound a lot better than it actually is. So, being honest, it's a bit shite. Or is it? Who knows? Who cares? Will I stop posing questions? Maybe?

Also on the afore-mentioned page is a live rendition of a song entitled "I Don't Mind" from a recent RTE Radio 1 programme I performed on. You can also hear my witty response to the interviewer's first question. No doubt my "quip" will be featured on one of those Channel 4 "100 Funniest Moments Ever" programmes, possibly at No. 58, narrowly beaten by Lenny Henry, of course. The complete unedited interview and performance can be found here (click on the 7th December 2007 link).

Incidentally, "I Don't Mind" will be the lead track on the forthcoming acoustic EP, which should be out on Bluedog Records via iTunes. You can also now buy a single I recently produced entitled "Love Them" by the wonderful Hannah Warman; coupled with a JM remix, this track is available on Hoop Records via iTunes.

There'll be two live dates in February too; you can see me back at Lila Eule with Gu, as well as being able to see him do a set in Camden. More details very soon!

This is also the first news update written in the first person. I sacked the person who was taking care of updates previously, namely one Sean James. If you pass him begging on the streets, please do not give him money. He'll only go and spend it on cans of White Lightning.

3rd September 2007

The "Introducing John Myers" EP is now available on iTunes worldwide through Bluedog Records! Whether you live in Ireland or Iraq (OK, not too sure about the latter), you can purchase four tracks collectively or individually, with the lead track being "You Can Lay Down". A new single entitled "Divinity" will be available in mid 2008, with an acoustic three track EP coming out soon too. Don't forget that there is currently an exclusive demo of "Divinity" on John's MySpace page in addition to a 30 second track called "Irish Ting", mixing ceili music with hip-hop.

You can also catch John performing a very special and exclusive show on the 7th of this month in Germany! He'll be performing alongside top man Gu at Lila Eule, Bernhardstr.10, 28203 Bremen around 9pm. So no excuses if you're not based in Germany, as Ryanair are doing flights over there for £5, as long as you're prepared to hang onto the wings of the plane.

7th July 2007

John is pleased and incontinent with delight to announce that the "Introducing John Myers" EP will be available via iTunes imminently, featuring four tracks including the Welshpool club favourite (well that's what he was told) "Everybody" in addition to "You Can Lay Down", "No Way Of Knowing" and "Lawdy Lady". Please note that "Everybody" and "Lawdy Lady" will not be available on the forthcoming album (the other two tracks will be included, albeit in slightly different versions). The release date will be announced very soon.

"You Can Lay Down" is currently at No.8 in the internet FAB chart, having entered at No.20 only three weeks ago! Could it reach No.1? Why is there only one monopolies commission? This and other questions will no doubt be answered in due course.

John is also contributing a cover of "Come Together" to Soul Reality's forthcoming Beatles covers album, a project which is supervised by Brighton's own Anthony Wilson, Mark Ede. Don't forget to keep on checking John's MySpace site where you'll hear exclusive tracks, demos and the odd twisted cover. Presently, you can hear a demo of a track entitled "Divinity" as well as an acoustic song entitled "So Called Heart" just to prove that he is "down" with the singer/songwriter movement, even though most of them bore his proverbial cajones off.

You can also catch John playing guitar at live dates for an artist called Jon Scott at the moment in a superb band which features the cream of London's top musicians including Paul Jones (Spacek, Don Blackman), Alexis Contouris (Imagination), Lennox Cameron (Sugababes, Omar) and Gordon Hulbert (Chaka Khan, Imogen Heap).

John will also be playing a live date in Bremen, Germany in September. More details soon!

20th April 2007

John's been keeping himself busy writing and producing for other acts, namely a new girl band called Red Blooded Women who are currently being courted by many major labels, as well as a superb soul vocalist and songwriter named Hannah Warman, whose song "Love Them" he produced and played on. You can hear this track and a remix which he did at www.myspace.com/hannahwarman; both tracks should be available on iTunes soon!

16th February 2007

Happy new year! Wasting no time, John's been recording with Simply Red band members (and producers in their own right) Pete and Steve Lewinson, putting down tracks for Blu, a singer that he's been writing with; they are sounding great and are all pretty much live one take recordings!

Excerpts of John's new songs will be posted on John's MySpace page very soon by the way, so keep your eyes peeled. Please don't take that literally, as you could damage your sight.

19th December 2006

It's that time of year again when the notion of a fat man coming down a chimney is not treated with suspicion by police. John's been busy with various projects; he recently arranged and played strings on a track by hotly tipped singer/songwriter Gary Nock and has also been credited with co-production of the song. He's also going to be involved with producing a new girl band, of which there will be more details very soon. There will be a nu-jazz collaboration in the New Year with a superb artist called Def Tron, so expect to hear John's vocal gracing one of the tracks on that act's forthcoming album. He's also going to resume writing and recording tracks for his own album...and you might like to read what the illustrious magazine "Blues & Soul" had to say about him in their Ocotber 25 - November 7 issue!

16th October 2006

You can now hear John Myers' remix of Shelly Poole's "Totally Underwater" at www.myspace.com/johnmyersremixes as well as some remixes of the "hit", "You Can Lay Down". You can also check out a recent review of the limited edition EP by esteemed Swiss music journalist and critic Robert Pally at www.above-i.ch/srec/ - copies are still available and can be ordered via the audio page.

John will also be back at the Halo Bar on Monday 23rd October doing a four song set of originals and jazz standards. The address, funnily enough, is still the same (317 Battersea Park Road, London SW11 4LT) and it starts at 8pm. Most importantly, it's FREE! So you may as well come down then.

Details of an upcoming gig in Brighton will be on this page very soon as well.

You may notice the lack of a forum on this site these days. Unfortunately the amount of hacking into it has been ridiculous (can't they target someone else like Ronan Keating?) so it's been decided to no longer implement this feature of the web site. However, you can visit John's MySpace site where you can leave comments for him and even "be his friend".

22nd September 2006

Just a quick note to let you know that John will be doing a few of his own songs as well as a jazz standard at the Halo Bar, 317 Battersea Park Road, London SW11 4LT on Monday 25th September. There will be other acts too as well as DJs - it all kicks off around 8pm and it's £5 in. He will not respond to requests for "All Of Me".

10th August 2006

John's been pretty busy remixing tracks by Shelly Poole amongst others; he's also been writing with a fine singer called Aisling Stephenson, in addition to producing the tracks (check out www.myspace.com/aislingstephenson for her page - you'll hear one of those tracks on there soon). He's also been working on songs for a singer called Blu which are sounding "heavy" (whatever that means) and writing more material for himself.

The "You Can Lay Down" 6 track EP is also now available! Only £2 (excluding postage and packing), this can be shipped worldwide and includes remixes as well as alternate versions. Just click on Audio above, and you will be taken to a link providing ordering details.

Don't forget to visit www.myspace.com/johnmyersmusic as well! You too can experience the joy that is getting a random message from a comely 18 year old girl from Russia who loves you but will need £500 to come over and visit you! I'm sure she'll be turning up any moment now...

22nd March 2006

Howdy peeps! Well it's a New Year and John's been writing or is scheduled to be doing so with various artists such as Eska and Michael Mondesir amongst others. He'll also be performing at Soul Reality, a special night at the Sanctuary Cella, 51-55 Brunswick St East, Hove BN3 1AU on the 22nd of April (Saturday night so no excuses); call it a smorgasboard of exhilarating eclectic styles, with no doubt a few dodgy notes thrown just to prove that it's all unrehearsed. This will be the third Soul Reality night and there's bound to be a few special guest artists, so do you really want to stay in and watch Graham Norton come out (excuse the pun) with tired old "jokes" whilst a bunch of self absorbed arseholes pass comment on the "dancers"? Oh, you do...

John Myers has recently contributed to a Lewis Taylor tribute album entitled "Lewis By Numbers". He has covered "Reconsider" in his own inimitable fashion, which basically means turning the guitars up. You can download the cover version along with a host of other fine interpretations at www.lozdesign.com/lbn/audio/ and don't forget, it's free!

Do keep on checking out www.myspace.com/johnmyersmusic for exclusive musical content. Some of it's even good.

1st January 2006

Welcome to John Myers's website! Feel free to browse the site and check out some music which is (funnily enough) in the Audio section. You can also order exclusive limited edition CDs on that page; the "Introducing John Myers" limited edition EP is now available for £3.99 (excluding postage and packing)! There is also a new track entitled "Everybody" featured on the audio page; you can hear an excerpt of this and also order it as a three track CD-R (including the standard version, an extended mix and instrumental version) for £2 (excluding postage and packing). Payment can be accepted with a cheque (UK only) or using credit/debit card (via Paypal). CDs can be shipped worldwide, from Philadelphia to...Peckham. You get the drift.

John has been co-writing with a variety of other artists such as Jack McManus (signed to Mercury/Universal) and Blu, in addition to recording a cover for a Lewis Taylor "tribute" album which will be available online soon; it will be free as well!

In other news, John Myers has recently become part of Martin Guitars' Artist Relations Programme. You can now find a link to Martin Guitars' website in the Links section (funnily enough) and see his new 6 stringed acquisition in action at future gigs, no doubt.

John's myspace website (which is at www.myspace.com/johnmyersmusic so get your arse over there) is well worth checking out as you can hear all three tracks from the EP. There is also a fourth track which will be changed approximately every week; this will usually be a free download as well! One week, it may be his cover of "Neighbours"; the next week you may get to hear his instrumental composition "Will You Be My Friend?" which wouldn't sit out of place on the playlists of JazzFM (or is it SmoothFM or Soft Jazz now? Perhaps the latter is a new jazz station catering for impotence sufferers). Basically it's all one excuse to air stuff that's just not good enough to be released. Only joking! I think...

There is also a DVD which was released late last year featuring John Myers, entitled "Shane MacGowan And The Popes Live At Montreux", which was filmed in Montreux (who said "No shit?"). This is available on Eagle Vision and can be found in all good record/multimedia stores, as well as a few shite ones, no doubt. It would be a perfect Christmas present for that Irish relative from Dundalk that you haven't seen for eleven years or something; yule be glad you bought it for them! Sorry again...
